(Trinidad Newsday) A YEAR after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer, Arielle Fahey-Cadiz died at a New Jersey hospital on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old mother of a ten-year-old boy was diagnosed in late April, 2018 with a rare form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. Fahey-Cadiz of Vistabella left TT last August to seek treatment.

Her friend Nneka Roy, the administrator of her “Fit to Fight Cancer” Facebook page broke the news about her death yesterday. Fahey-Cadiz mother was with her at the hospital.

In a brief telephone interview yesterday, Roy said Fahey-Cadiz just could not fully recover after undergoing chemotherapy and multiple surgeries.

Asked whether her death was a surprise, as a prayer meeting was held at her home on Gloria Saturday, Roy said, “We did not anticipate it but at the same time, I think everybody had a certain sense of peace about it.” Roy said she last spoke to her friend several months ago and she had seemed confident that she would beat the cancer.

“I last spoke to her a few months ago. She was always confident that she would have pulled through, she never gave up.”Roy said she was not sure whether her body would be brought back to Trinidad for burial. As news of Fahey-Cadiz’s death made the rounds on social media, many posted messages of condolence and support on the Facebook accounts.
