Conference on Indian indentureship diaspora

Dear Editor,

A conference on Indian indentureship diaspora (indentured labourers and their descendants) is planned on the sidelines of the Indian government’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) programme being held in Varanasi.

The conference is organized by Indira Gandhi University (Center of Freedom Studies and Center for Diaspora Studies) in collaboration with the Indian Diaspora International Center (Caribbean) and Indian Diaspora Council (Australia). The conference, slated for January 19 and 20 at BHU, is sponsored by Deo Gosine Foundation (of Trinidad and Tobago and USA).

The theme of the conference is “People of Indian Ancestry and Indian Culture: Historic And Contemporary Contexts”.

The PBD is India’s signature event for overseas based Indians. This year’s fifth edition is held from January 21 to 23 in Tent City, Varanasi to coincide with the Kumbh Mela which will attract millions.

Further information can be obtained by email igcfss@ignou.ac.in.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Vishnu Bisram
