Justice Patterson should consider concentrating on his health and let work of GECOM proceed

Dear Editor,

I draw attention to the health of Justice (Rtd) James Patterson. Since the completion of the Local Government Elections, Justice Patterson has been absent due to ill health. Meetings of GECOM have been consistently postponed due to the Chairman’s ill health. The most recent postponement was on January 8th, 2019.

While there is a security of tenure per Article 255, Justice Patterson should consider concentrating on his health. This does not denigrate his position, life or health, but is a plea for the respected Justice to lead by example and let the work of the Commission proceed.

Should Justice Patterson choose to remain married to GECOM while being ill, then we call on the Prime Minister to look at the performance and health of the Chairman for the past three months and invoke the Articles for replacement.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Yog Mahadeo
