In-transit periods at Piarco need to be minimised

Dear Editor,

As a frequent flyer on Caribbean Airlines, I have noticed a trend that has become quite annoying.

On the flight from Miami to Georgetown, a one and a half hour in transit at Piarco is stated on the itinerary. During this time, passengers are not allowed to come off the plane, nor to move around, nor to use cellular phones as the plane is being refueled. No refreshments are served to passengers either.

Editor, in 95 per cent of my travels, this time is always extended to over two hours. No apologies are offered, passengers are not told what is causing the delay, and when they can leave.

On February 25th, my children and I landed at 19:01 hrs at Piarco and were assured by the pilot that there would be a short one-hour delay. The crew changed as usual and the time passed. At 21:00 hrs, we were told by the new pilot that we are awaiting passengers from Jamaica and will leave at 21:25 hrs.

Editor, we left at 21:50 hrs after being stuck on the plane for close to three hours in transit.

I am kindly asking the relevant authorities in Guyana to look into this uncaring attitude displayed by Caribbean Airlines that is now being accepted as the norm, and some measures to be put in place by the airline to minimise these uncomfortable extended in-transit periods.

Yours faithfully,
