Why didn’t East Coast contractors complete first phase before starting another?

Dear Editor,

As you are aware, the first phase of the four-lane expansion programme of the East Coast Public Road, which is from Better Hope to Annandale, is underway.  As it is, the expansion of this road has caused great inconvenience and discomfort to commuters as well as to businesses and homes along the way.

This project was expected to be completed by August, but I understand the contractors have up to the end of September 2019 to do so.

With this in mind, I have now noticed that they have begun to dig along the roadway from Annandale as far as Enmore, and I understand they are going as far as Beehive.

Now, Editor, my question is, why the Contractors were given permission to start another phase of the road, while the first phase is still under construction.

This is extremely inconvenient to persons who have to traverse these roadways on a daily basis.

In my opinion, it would have been logical to complete the first phase before attempting another phase.

There is already the Sheriff Street/ Mandela Avenue expansion in progress along with the East Coast Public Road.

As I mentioned before, there seems to be absolutely no consideration for commuters.

Yours faithfully,
