ABR Oil & Gas Company is not the African Business Roundtable

Dear Editor,

Another sensational headline was seen yesterday in the Stabroek News `SARA’s Phillips was president of ABR in 2018 despite claim of inactivity’. Renowned for its weekly business sector and intelligent and truthful analysis of domestic and international business issues, its seem very purposeful that this article does not know the difference between the African Business Roundtable, which is a business service organization like the Private Sector Commission or the American Busi-ness Chamber, and a business entity registered under the Companies Act of Guyana.

I was the President of the African Business Roundtable and served for two years. This entity was launched in November 2016

Its website states “The African Business Roundtable (ABR) has been constituted as part of the national effort to achieve the objectives contained in Resolution A/Res/68/237 and A/Res/69/16 of the United Nations General Assembly in respect of the International Decade for People of African Descent and the Programme of Action therefor. In particular, those of paragraph 4 of UN Resolution A/Res/69/16. The ABR is therefore geared towards meeting objectives of National Development through the implementation of business initiatives that will help to grow the Guyana economy using a variety of strategies, including the sustainable development of Guyanese of African Descent in the business sector.

Towards these ends, the ABR will work with all persons, organizations, and institutions that seek to achieve the objectives of economic and social inclusion of people of African descent in the full enjoyment of Guyana’s patrimony in recognition of their uncompensated contribution to the development of Guyana, and in accordance with the objectives of the two UN resolutions in reference and the relevant provisions of the Guyana Constitution”.

The ABR Oil & Gas Company is not the African Business Roundtable.

I am not and have never been the CEO of ABR Oil & Gas and have had nothing to do with its management or day to day operations since December 2016. I was not the person who filed the application for one of the two remaining oil blocks. This process was performed by the Management Team of ABR Oil & Gas.

How can this public misrepresentation not be known by the Editors of the Stabroek News?

Why is this magnificent media masquerade continuing?

Yours faithfully,

Eric Phillips

Editor’s note: In his public statement of July 15, Mr Phillips made no mention of ABR Oil and Gas. He mentioned African Business Roundtable only.
