Lenox Shuman (third from right), Presidential Candidate of the Liberty & Justice Party (LJP) accompanied by executive party members: Sean Dublin, Dr. Orin Miller, and Brandon Cheong, met representatives from the Carter Center yesterday, regarding the current constitutional crisis, the formation of the movement, and the holding of General and Regional Elections in Guyana, according to a release from the party.
The release said that the LJP reiterated its call for the Constitution to be respected and elections held within the legally specified timeframe. Furthermore, Shuman restated during the meeting the LJP’s position for Constitutional Reform and legislation that addresses campaign financing, the electoral process, political party laws and an expansion of the franchise.
“The Liberty and Justice Party hopes that the Carter Center will be invited to re-engage in Guyana’s electoral process to ensure a meaningful, nonpartisan role for its election observation activities, returning Guyana’s electoral credibility with the Carter Center’s pre-2004 levels of commitment”, the party said.
It called on all stakeholders to put the national interest above party interests.
