MELBOURNE, Australia, MC – Ex-West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo starred as Melbourne Stars thrashed Melbourne Renegades by seven wickets in a high profile clash in the Big Bash League here New Year’s Day.

Playing in the Melbourne derby at the MCG, seamer Bravo claimed three for 27 from four overs to help restrict Renegades to 148 for nine off their 20 overs.

Daniel Christian top-scored with 32 and opener Sam Harper got 30, while Mackenzie Harvey chipped in with 21, after Renegades were sent in.

Renegades were giving a rousing start by Harper and Harvey who put on 52 off 30 balls for the first wicket. When the innings slumped to 80 for five at the end of the 11th over, Christian put on a crucial 50 for the sixth wicket with Beau Webster (19) to keep his side afloat.

Bravo broke the stand when he had Christian holing out to mid-off off a slower delivery in the 18th over.

In reply, Stars hardly put a foot wrong as they stormed to their target in the 18th over, with Man-of-the-Match opener Marcus Stoinis stroking an unbeaten 78 off 49 deliveries.

He put on 67 off 48 balls with Ben Dunk (32) for the first wicket before adding a further adding a further 65 for the third wicket with captain Glenn Maxwell (33 not out).

Bravo has taken six wickets in four matches for Stars who he joined this season from Renegades.
