BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Both Leeward Islands Hurricanes and Windward Islands Volcanoes have leapfrogged Barbados Pride in the Regional four-day standings, after posting impressive wins on Monday’s final day of the third round of matches.
Hurricanes now lie second on 43.6 points while Volcanoes are up to third on 38.2 points, behind early leaders Guyana Jaguars who have 58.4 points.
After winning their opener against Pride and losing their second outing to Jaguars before Christmas, Hurricanes rebounded in style to trounce Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by 245 runs at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
They set the hosts 342 to win and bundled them out for 96, thanks to four-wicket hauls from Man-of-the-Match off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall and West Indies quick Alzarri Joseph.
Volcanoes, meanwhile, were equally impressive in pulling off a five-wicket victory over Jamaica Scorpions at Sabina Park in Kingston.
Resuming the final day on 174 for four in pursuit of 287, the visitors coasted to their target courtesy of captain Kirk Edwards’s 76 and an unbeaten 59 from Kavem Hodge.
Pride’s poor early season form continued, however, as they went down to Jaguars by six wickets in a dramatic finish at Kensington Oval, leaving them fourth in the table on 29.8 points.
The traditional powerhouses have now lost two of their opening three matches.
Red Force, also perennial powerhouses, saw their woes continue with their second defeat in as many matches, and are now fifth on 10.2 points.
Scorpions, with an identical record, lie bottom on 9.8 points.
