The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) on Sunday served off its inaugural Diamond Mineral Water Beach volleyball tournament at the Marriott beachfront.

The tournament was used to select Guyana’s representatives to participate in the beach volleyball Olympic Qualifiers set to serve off in Argentina in March.

The GVF initiative saw 13 rounds of intense volleyball action with Juan Velazquez and Vance Harding (one of the pairs who booked a spot to the Argentina Olympic Qualifiers) dominating the day’s proceedings.

The duo’s unbeaten run saw them defeating the other male qualifying pair (Quacy Matheson and Ian Bagot) 21-15, 21-15 in one of the earlier rounds.

They were set to clash again in the final but bad light, unfortunately, prevented that from happening.

Candace Mentore and Philana Sampson earned the lone female qualifying spot on the back of a walkover from the other registered team.
