Defending champions, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and the University of Guyana (UG), yesterday notched up wins in the season opener of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), New Building Society (NBS) second division 40-overs tournament.

DCC defeated host Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by 26 runs on the back of a solid contribution from national U19 batsman Sachin Singh which was backed up by a combined bowling effort.

Seamer Carlton Jacques bowled well with the new ball to claim 2-40 while Ashmead Nedd (1-14) from his eight overs, made scoring difficult for the host.
