A century from Lusignan A skipper Krishna Deosarran highlighted the opening round of the East Coast Cricket Committee/SPR 40-overs tournament as Lusignan A scored a 237-run victory over Cane Grove.

On home turf at the Lusignan Community Centre ground, Sunday, Lusignan raced to 330-6 from their allotted overs with Deosarran clobbering 10 sixes and three fours in his knock of 118.

Openers Shazam Ali (65) and Steve Ramdass (40) put on a century opening stand while Vishnu Ramjeet scored a brutal 59.

In reply, Cane Grove were rocked by a magnificent bowling spell from Chandrapaul Ramraj who snared 6-20 to dismantle the visitors for 93 in 19.3 overs.

In the other contests, Enmore Community Centre recorded a six-wicket win over Mahaica Sports Club. Mahaica were bundled out for 82 in 20 overs with number 10 batsman I. Ali top scoring with 20 while Enmore replied with 84-4 in just seven overs as skipper Bheemraj Kellawan top scored with 43 not out on home turf.

Strathavon were unlucky in a rain affected match but fought valiantly to fall to a two-wicket defeat.

G. Sugrim’s 61 consisting of seven fours and a pair of sixes coupled with S. Budhu’s 35 saw Strathavon up to 193 while the rains revised the chase for Lusignan B who were required to score 107 in 22 overs. They eventually reached 111-8 with K. Franklin top scoring with 37 and Chandrapaul Hemraj bagging 2-20.

At Ogle, the hosts defeated Paradise by eight wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 91 in 17.1 overs.

Andre Gomes snatched 4-15. In the chase, Andrew Samaroo top scored with an unbeaten 21 to see his side to 63.2 in the eighth over.

The contest continues this weekend with seven matches.
