Flashback-Scenes from the opening game of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara leg between Up-Top-Bosses and Boom Bang [dark green] at the Pouderoyen Tarmac

All roads will lead to the Pouderoyen tarmac tonight, when the 5th edition of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara edition, continues with the second round of group fixtures.

In the opening clash at 19:00hrs, Jetty will oppose West Side Ballers from 19:00hrs, while Boom Bang will lock horns with Up-Like-7 from 19:30hrs.

At 20:00hrs, Genna tackles Dream Team in the third showdown, while the fourth fixture pits Young Ballers against Agricola from 20:30hrs.

The fifth contest at 21:00hrs will pit ESPN against Brothers United, while Ballers Empire will match skills with Bagotstown Warriors from 21:30hrs.

In the final two fixtures, Rising Stars face off with Phoenix Ballers from 22:00hrs and three-time defending champion Showstoppers take aim at Up-Top-Boss from 22:30hrs.

Meanwhile, Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess, coordinator of the event during a brief comment said, “It was very competitive in terms of the results, we had multiple games going to penalty kicks which is a sign of the improvement for teams and players at large. We had a wonderful turnout and after matchday one, the fans are calling for us do this tournament twice a year.”

According to Bess, “One of the teams that signalled their intention from kick-off was Up-Top Bosses. They looked very competitive. Also, last year losing finalist ESPN also signalled their intentions with a drubbing of Dream Team and we have defending champion Showstoppers showing that they will not be easy to dethrone with a drubbing of Up-Like-7.”  He further said, “Meanwhile, one of the new teams that made a senior team fight for the victory was Phoenix Ballers who lost on penalty kicks to Jetty. We had also Young Ballers, a newcomer pushing Bagotstown Warriors to the limit and losing on penalty kicks. This means that we are going to have a very competitive tournament this year. On the other hand, two teams that disappointed on the opening night were Agricola and Rising Stars. Their performances were very poor compared to their usual standard of play.”

Bess revealed that the Plate Championship will commence at the end of the quarterfinal round. The final matchday of the group stage will occur on February 1st at the same venue. Below features a complete list of the slated matches.

The event, which is the first zone of the annual season, features 16 teams battling in an initial round-robin format.

The top two finishers from each group will advance to the quarterfinal round. Winner of the event will collect $500,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up will receive $250,000 and the corresponding accolade.

On the other hand, the third and fourth place teams will pocket $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and a trophy. The other playing dates are February 1st, 6th, 8th, with the final pencilled for the 15th.
