A fine all-round display by 12-year-old Romeo Deonarain helped the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) crush Transport Sports Club (TSC) by five wickets in a feature Under-15, 30-overs-a-side match played under lights last Friday at the home of legends, DCC, Queenstown.

TSC won the toss and batted first in lovely conditions for cricket and openers R. Latif and A. Mohabir put on a partnership of 26 before Mohabir was dismissed for seven.

Deonarain, introduced into the attack, spun webs around the TSC batsmen with only Latif offering resistance with a fighting 29 as his team was dismissed for 82 in the final over. Deonarain finished with 4 for 10 from five overs. He got support from K. Caesar and S. Walters with two wickets apiece.

In reply, DCC openers, Deonarain and N. Allen looked like they were on a mission scoring freely until they lost Allen for six. DCC lost two more quick wickets but national junior table tennis star Jonathan Van Lange joined Deonarain and took their team close to victory with good batting and sensible running between the wickets before the former went for 21. Then came the aggressive J. Campbell who scored a rapid 18. Deonarain retired after a solid innings of 17 as DCC romped to victory by five wickets with 10 overs to spare.

Representative from both teams thanked the organisers DCC and the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) for staging the match which is being used as preparation for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board Inter-County U15 tournament which is to be contested shortly.
