Georgetown Football Club [GFC] was crowned the Georgetown Football Association [FA] ‘Revival Cup’ Champion, upsetting the Guyana Police Force [GPF] in the finale on Sunday.

Staged at the GFC ground, Bourda, it was the first senior championship secured by the hosts in more than 40 years.

The home side took the lead in the 34th minute, as forward LaVaughn Ennis etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.

Latching onto the ball at the top of the 18 yard box, Ennis swivelled and uncorked a powerful flat strike which into the bottom left corner of the net.

The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval. GFC built on their lead in the 79th minute, as Rondel Peters made his presence felt.

The skilful midfielder rifled a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, which was poorly judged by the custodian and settled into the back of the woodwork.

GPF eventually pulled one back in the 87th minute, as defender Steffon Ramsay scored. The lanky defender thumped a right foot effort into the far corner, giving the lawmen hope of a possible comeback.

However any hopes of overturning the result for GPF was quickly extinguished, as the home side defended stoutly in the dying moments to seal the title.

Meanwhile, newcomer GT Panthers needled Fruta Conquerors Reserve Team 2-1 in the third place playoff. Carlos Dushan and Desmond Cottam scored in the 20th and 68th minute each.

For the loser, Delon Williams found the back of the net in the 48th minute. The presentation ceremony for the event will be announced shortly.
