RHT Bakewell into NBS 40-overs final

Rose Hall Town Bakewell continued its  impressive run in the Berbice Cricket Board/ New Building Society, second-division 40-overs tournament with two wins last weekend.

They first defeated Ramnarine Memorial by 116 runs and then beat No. 72 Cut and Load by 20 runs in the semifinal on Sunday.

Saturday’s play at the Port Mourant Ground saw Bakewell batting first and reaching 202-9 from their allotted overs before restricting Ramnarine Memorial to 86 all out in 18.1 overs.

Bakewell lost Junior Sinclair with just 18 runs on the board, bowled by Jason Gray. Captain, Kevin Sinclair was joined by Surendra Kissoonlall and the pair forged a 30-run partnership for the second wicket before Paul Tyndall accounted for the skipper who made 28.

Kissoonlall went on to carve five fours and a lone six on his way to 62 before he too fell to Gray. Kissoonlall was supported by Jonathan Rampersaud (34). Gray ended with 3-41 while his brother, Roydon made light work of the lower order to end with 3-30.

In reply, Ramnarine Memorial’s scoring was stymied by Kevin Sinclair who returned to take 3-20 with his off break bowling along with National female seamer, Erva Giddings, who bagged 2-10 and his cousin, Junior Sinclair who took 2-3.

Bakewell returned the following day to defend 106 after rain forced the match to be reduced to a 25-overs-a-side affair. Kevlon Anderson with a compact 45 ensured his side only lost eight wickets but it was Junior Sinclair who halted the scoring once again with 4-23. Anderson returned to cap off a good all round performance with 2-9 while Keith Simpson chipped in with 2-16. D. Chatterpaul top scored with 17.
