A grand 5-a-side football tournament for players over the age of 40 is set for tomorrow at the Kings of Kings playfield in Sophia. The one-day football festival will involve eight teams to be divided into two groups of four to contest the preliminary round-robin action. The two top teams from each group will then advance to the semifinals KO stage.

The invited teams are, Pele Masters, Rastafari Patriarchs (2 teams), Georgetown Masters, Sophia Masters, National Park Masters, Berbice Masters and Linden Masters. A total of fifteen matches will be played with the first of the 15-minute game scheduled for 10 AM.

Meanwhile teams are asked to send a representative to witness the draw of the groups which will take place this afternoon at 4 pm at the Kings of Kings playfield. A number of trophies, all donated by Kings of Kings Cuisine on the Merriman’s Mall, will be up for grabs.

The owner of the Kings of Kings Cuisine and Kings of Kings Jewelry, Shawn ‘Cappy’ Jacobs, who celebrated his birthday last Tuesday, is the chief organizer of the competition. ‘Cappy’ who is prominent among Masters football feels the tournament will bring the past footballers together in a friendly and competitive atmosphere, something that has been absent  for several years now.

Among some of the past stalwarts of the game who are expected to compete are: Omali Nassy, Rawle Jones, Chris and Deon Barnwell, Adrian Forde, Dexter Cort, Vibert Butts, Herbert Pellew, Quacy Price and Jerry Whittington.
