Four Trini pugilists for Patrick Ford memorial

Trinidad and Tobago will be represented by four boxers when the Patrick Ford Memorial International is staged on February 17 at the National Gymnasium.

According to information reaching this daily, Blessings Waldropt (60kg Youth), Nyrell Hosein (57kg Junior), Aaron Prince (75kg elite) and Justin Parris (56kg elite) will be the pugilists representing the Twin Island Republic.

The boxers will be accompanied by a Manager and a Coach.

President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle mentioned yesterday that “Suriname has named four boxers also and St Lucia one.”

St Lucia has Caribbean Championship  middleweight silver medallist Arthur Langelier coming for a rematch with gold medalist at the event, Desmond Amsterdam. 

The Patrick Ford Memorial International which is a collaborative effort involving  the GBA and Alford McDonald was birthed following the success of the Mike Parris U-16, the Andrew Lewis National Novices, the Lennox Blackmore National Intermediate and the Terrence Ali National Open.  

Ninvalle added: “We are also looking at honouring Winfield Braithwaite.”

Braithwaite won a gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada, in the light-welterweight division. 

Tickets cost $1000 for stands and $2000 for ringside.
