Blue Thunder recently won the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Inter-Organisation teams tournament held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue.

Blue Thunder comprising Devon Richmond, Remy Taitt and Vernon Rodrigues defeated Guyana Islamic Trust 3-0 to end the three-day competition, which raised the curtain on GTTA’s 2019 season, unbeaten.

The eventual champions, in the semis, edged out NP Electronic 3-2 while Guyana Islamic Trust defeated the Guyana Fire Service by a similar score line to set up the final.    Nine teams were involved in the competition and were divided into three groups with the winners and runner-up in each group advancing to the knock-out round.

Michael Vieira captain of NP Electronics receives the team’s trophy from GTTA vice president Gary Pratt while Bruce Murray and Xenophen Goliath look on.

Group one saw the Guyana Fire Service (Warren Hackshaw and Quincy Rice) advancing on the back of wins against Guyana Islamic Trust “C” (C Hector and H Lewis), 3-0 and the Chinese Embassy “B” (Xilai Chen and Chunhui Li), 3-1.

Guyana Islamic Trust “C” copped the second quarter-final place by defeating the Chinese Embassy “B” 3-2.

NP Electronics (Michael Vieira, Xenophon Goliath and Bruce Murray) served their way past Guyana Islamic Trust “B” (Abdool Rahim, Saad Baksh and Areeb Ali), 3-0 and the Chinese Embassy “A” (Jiansong Shen and Feng Wang), 3-1 to advance from group two while the Guyana Islamic Trust “B” won the decider against the Chinese Embassy “A” 3-2 to book the other qualifying spot out of group two.

Advancing from group three were the eventual champions Blue Thunder and Guyana Islamic Trust “A” after both teams received a walkover from Power Producer Distributor Ink.
