A small but vocal crowd was treated to an exciting display of volleyball Sunday evening as Vanguard Volleyball Club and Young Achievers served their way to the 2019 female and male Lenny Shuffler Volleyball titles at the National Gymnasium.

Vanguard clinched the female title by downing Castrol Strikers 3-1 in the final.

Young Achievers received yet another volleyball title Sunday evening.

Vanguard, easily the better team, took the first set 25-23 before Strikers, who led by as many as eight points in the second set, took it 25-17 to level the contest.   The eventual champions composed themselves and dominated the next two sets 25-19, 25-13 to complete the 3-1 win on the back of an MVP performance by Danielle Samaroo, who exercised her precision with a number of well-placed serves which was the difference between the two teams.  She was also useful at the net and was equally as effective with her set plays,  orchestrating a number of spikes.   The male final between the Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) Volleyball Club of Berbice and Demerara’s Young Achievers proved a treat for the volleyball lovers who were on hand to witness the contest between the two well-drilled teams.  It was the lads from Demerara who prevailed in the combative grand finale 3-1 to take the 2019 title. Sporting their usual bright orange uniform and led by MVP Creston Rodney, Young Achievers took the match 25-10, 25-13, 23-25 and 25-21.

Earlier PMTC defeated Rollers 25-19,25-15,26-24 while Achievers soared past Eagles 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 to set up the final.
