Lucrative prizes at stake for `Dominoes in the Country’ c/ships

The inaugural Dragon Stout and I-Cool sponsored ‘Dominoes in the Country’ Championships was officially launched yesterday at the Good Times Sports Bar, Pouderoyen.

The event, which is set to commence on Sunday from 13:00hrs, will feature 27 teams competing for over $300,000 in prizes.

Winner of the event will pocket $175,000 and a trophy with the second and third place finishers copping $75,000 and $30,000 respectively and trophies.

The grand finale is penciled for Wednesday at the same venue. Entrance fee per team is $10,000.

Speaking at the simple launch ceremony, Dragon Stout Brand Coordinator Jamal Baird stated that the company had no hesitation in supporting in the tournament as they are committed to the development of sports at the grassroots level.

Good Times Sports Bar Proprietor David Hunte thanked the company for its timely support and for selecting the venue for the event.

He promised that the event will be executed with the necessary professionalism and discipline required by the corporate entity.   Mark ‘Jumbie’ Wiltshire, tournament coordinator and senior organizing secretary of the Georgetown Dominoes Association, said that 18 teams from various sections of the country have already registered for the event.

Anand Bharat of V&V Variety Story, the entity who will be donating the event’s Most Valuable Player [MVP] accolade, declared that the event will be exciting and selecting a possible winner is a difficult task due to the competitive level of the teams.
