Powell, Berridge help Hurricanes whip Scorpions

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Captain Kieran Powell finally tasted form with a half-century but it was seamer Sheno Berridge’s four-wicket burst which earned Leeward Islands Hurricanes a convincing 134-run win over Jamaica Scorpions inside three days here yesterday.

Resuming on 171 for three, Hurricanes were dismissed for 312 in their second innings with Keacy Carty getting 68, Powell stroking 54 down the order and all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall chipping with a typically robust 52.

Set 273 for victory at Sabina Park, the hosts then crumbled for 138 with only the in-form Brandon King showing any resistance with 31.

Berridge snatched four for 40 while off-spinners Terrance Warde (2-2) and Cornwall (2-32) and leg-spinner Damion Jacobs (2-22) supported with two wickets each.

Scorpions were well placed at 77 for two following a 40-run third wicket stand between King and captain Paul Palmer (21), but once they were dismissed, the last eight wickets tumbled for 61 runs.

Earlier, Carty had failed to build on his overnight 63 when he added just five but Powell and Cornwall took charge of the innings.

Batting at number seven, Powell stroked six fours and a six off 79 deliveries, posting 52 for the eighth wicket with Quinton Boatswain (17), while Cornwall’s knock was a breezy one coming from 63 deliveries with six fours and two sixes.
