East Bank crushed West Demerara by 191 runs while East Coast coasted past Georgetown by 42 runs as the first round of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-17 Inter-Association tournament got underway yesterday.

At the Wales Community Centre Ground ground, East Bank batted first and piled up 238-9 from their allotted 46 overs after a late start reduced the overs in the match from 50.

West Demerara were then bundled out for an embarrassing 47 in 20 overs.

East Bank were indebted to half centuries from West Indies Under-15 batsman Mavindra Dindyal and Mathew Nandu.

After Thaddeus Lovell was bowled by Daniel Roberts for 10, Dindyal and Nandu shared in an 84-run partnership for the first wicket. Dindyal stroked seven boundaries during his top score of 59 that ended after a mix up resulted in him being run out while Nandu ran well between the wickets and hit just one boundary during his even half century before being dismissed by Roberts who ended with 2-35.

Zachary Jodah and Inderjeet Nanan provided crucial cameos of 28 and 20 respectively as Aamir Jareil (2-43) and Avesh Persaud (2-40) got among the wickets.

In reply, West Demerara ran poorly between the wickets which contributed to three run outs. J. Pinder (2-2) and Georgetown Cricket Club’s duo of Rivaldo Phillips (2-6) and Darius Andrews (3-11) were the wicket takers.

Nicholas Rajpat was the only batsman to reach double figures with 14.

Meanwhile at Lusignan Community Center Ground, East Coast won the toss and batted first where they were bowled out for 94 in 44.1 overs while Georgetown, in reply, were dismissed for 55 in 22.5 overs.

Everest Cricket Club’s Reynaldo Mohammed provided stability at the top of the order with 24 consisting of two boundaries while Edmond Pearson came in at number eight to smack two fours and two sixes for a top score of 25.

Mahendra Singh was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 11. Ezekiel Wilson and Niron Bissu took three wickets each for 18 and 23 runs respectively. In reply, Jagdesh Dewlatarm (2-14) removed both openers, Mitra Dhanraj and Crandon Jackson without scoring while Zacharah Mootoo also fell to Romel Datterdeen (2-13) without troubling the scoreboard.

Chad Shivrattan and Bissu were the only batsmen to show some fight with 17 and 11 respectively while Shafeek Khan wrapped up the lower order to return 3-8.
