Historic cycling event to take place Saturday in Bartica

History will be made on Saturday when the cream of the nation’s bikers transform the streets of Bartica into their personal battle ground for lucrative prizes.

It will be the first time in the nation’s history that racing cyclists from all across Guyana will compete in an event on the asphalt of Region 7. In excess $400,000 in cash and prizes would be up for grabs in the senior, junior, juvenile, female and masters categories.

Races for BMX riders in the 6-9 years, 9-12 years along with Open races for residents would also form part of the day’s activities.

Sponsored by the Bartica Town Council, Mayor Gifford Marshall recently expressed his excitement in anticipation of the historic fixture.

Action is set to start at 10:00hrs and according to information, the town is already buzzing about the 45-lap main race.

Top wheelsmen like Romello Crawford, Curtis Dey, Paul DeNobrega, Andre Green, Brighton John and Balram Narine will be among the bikers gunning for the top podium spot.
