The Bounty GCC men’s team yesterday mauled Old Fort 7-0 to clinch the 2019 Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Farfan and Mendes Outdoor First Division League, dethroning Pepsi Hikers in the process.

The win for GCC gave them 20 points at the conclusion of the league a one-point cushion over arch-rival and the defending champions Pepsi Hikers on the championship points board.

GCC, needing a final round win to secure the title, was led by a double strike from Meshach Sargeant while Steven Xavier, who orchestrated the opening goal, Kevin Spencer, Mark Sargent, Kareem McKenzie and Devin Hooper all rattled the back of the net once to complete the drubbing.

Hikers, on the other hand, who would have been hoping for Old Fort to win over GCC to increase their chances of retaining the title, completed their task by downing Saints 5-1.

Goals for Hikers came off the sticks of Shane Samuels and Aroydy Branford, who both netted twice, while Andrew Stewart recorded the other strike.

Meanwhile, GCC Vintage defeated Supernova 2-0 in a  dead-rubber to bring the curtain down on the league with a win.

Collecting the individual awards were GCC’s Mckenzie, who ended as the league’s MVP while Branford’s 21 goals were the highest tally of the league.
