Bartica Warriors atop points table after first weekend of DVA division one league

Bartica Warriors, who are participating in the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) tournament, are leading the points table after the first round of matches in this year’s league which commenced at the weekend at the National Gymnasium. 

Warriors, who are sitting on nine points, on Saturday defeated Pakuri Warriors in straight sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-13 to notch up a comfortable first-round win. 

Warriors, in their second match of the day, got past Glasgow Rangers 25-8, 25-9, 25-12 to start the league strongly. 

Eagles, who trail Warriors with six points, defeated Pakuri Warriors 25-23, 25-15, 15-14 while Castrol Strikers downed Vanguard 24-26, 25-21, 25-12, 25-17 to collect early points.

Meanwhile, the lone female match of the day saw Castrol Strikers beating Pakuri Warriors in a five-setter 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12. 

Sunday’s action saw Warriors spiking their way to a third win by defeating Castrol Strikers 25-11, 25-23, 24-26.

 However, the lads from Essequibo, who were searching for a fourth win, were stopped by powerhouse Young Achievers who defeated them 3-2; 29-31, 25-19, 15-25, 25-23, 15-6 in an intense duel.

Eagles, on the other hand, defeated Glasgow Rangers 25-8, 25-9, 25-13, while in the final match on Sunday, Rangers rebounded to work their way past Vanguard 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.
