Pacesetters crowned GABA U23 champs

Pacesetters were crowned the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA]/’Lets Bet Sports’ U23 champions, defeating Plaisance Guardians 75-69 on Sunday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.

Quincy Dos Santos and Zion Gray led the way for the victors with 19 points each, with Akini Wilson the next best scorer with 14 points.

 For the losers, Nigel Bowen and Jared Sears tallied 17 and 16 points each, while Moses Matthews added nine points.

 Meanwhile, Eagles secured the third position, edging University of Guyana [UG] Trojans 76-75. Shamar Huntley top scored in the win with 26 points.

 He was assisted by Anthony Vansen, scorer of 14 points. For the loser, Denzil Ross and Kadeem Peterkin netted 20 and 19 points apiece.

 The event which is sponsored by the Guyana Lottery Company, continues today at the same venue with the commencement of the second and first division  respectively.

The second  division will feature five teams competing in a single elimination tournament. The opening match will pit Sonics against Vikings.

The victor of the clash will advance to the semi-final round, alongside the trio of Guardians, Pacesetters and Eagles.

Similarly, the first division will commence with Sonics battling UG Trojans. The aforesaid section will feature eight teams and will last for the duration of seven days.
