A five-wicket haul from Aaron Beharry followed by an unbeaten half century from Ushardiva Balgobin ensured Everest Cricket Club defeat Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) by eight wickets Saturday in the Georgetown Cricket Association Noble House Seafoods Under-19 Generation Next tournament.

MYO won the toss, decided to take first strike, and were bowled out for 155 in 39 overs.

Everest then replied with 160-2 in 25 overs.

MYO’s batting line up was rocked by off-spinner Beharry who took 5-20 from eight overs.

He took the wickets of Mohammed Jameer and Avinash Rajkumar in a maiden over.

The Woolford Avenue based club was in a spot of bother after slipping to 29-4 but a sixth wicket partnership of 75 between Marlon Boele and Bryion Bowen brought the team over the 100-run line.

Bowen smashed five fours and a lone six in his 77-ball 46 but was run out in a mix-up with Boele, who pushed a delivery to short cover where Balgobin was stationed.

Bowen was already half way down the wicket when he was sent back and a direct hit from the fielder ended his innings.

Boele went on to make 37 from 67 balls with four boundaries before he was bowled by Beharry.

Zachariah Mootoo was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 12.

In the chase, Everest openers, Anthony Khan (19) and Ghansham Premchand (29) got their team off to a dream start, putting on 51. After their dismissals, with the score 69-2, Balgobin and Ariel Tilku ensured their side over the line with an unbroken 92-run stand.

Balgobin used the straight bat against the spinners with most of his scoring shots being down the ground as he clobbered four sixes and 10 fours in his unbeaten 70.

Tilku was happy to give Balgobin the strike with sharp singles in his composed innings of 17 not out that consisted of just a single boundary.
