Kobras clinch GABA/Let’s Bet division one title

Kobras secured the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA]/’Lets Bet Sports’ division one championships, downing Plaisance Guardians 87-69 on Saturday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.

A mammoth 36-point effort from national point guard Travis Burnett secured the title for the relative newcomer Kobras. He was assisted by rising star Carlos Edwards, with Jermaine Slater and Garfield Grenville who added 14 and nine points respectively.

For Plaisance Guardians, Enoch Matthews and Nikkoloi Smith led the way with 19 points each with Marlon Chesney the next best scorer with 14 points.

The contest started perfectly for Kobras as the first period ended 22-14. However, Guardians responded in the second quarter to reduce the deficit, outscoring Kobras 18-14 to enter the halftime interval trailing 32.-36

However, Kobras fired back in the pivotal third stanza, outscoring Guardians 22-12 to enter the fourth period ahead at 58-44.

Kobras then sealed the title, amassing an impressive 31 points, while restricting Guardians to 25 points. In the third place playoffs, Eagles defeated Pepsi Sonics 69-55.
