Walkovers highlight opening night of Futsal c/ships

On night highlighted by three walkovers, Sparta Boss, Future Stars, Leopold Street and Bent Street secured easy wins, when the Stag Beer Easter Cup Futsal Championship started on Saturday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

 Sparta Boss dismissed Kingston 6-1. Ryan Hackett scored twice in the 19th and 22nd minute with Gregory Richardson and Jermin Junior netting in the fifth and 23rd minute.

Own goals added to the score in the 14th and 15th minute. Future Stars crushed Hustlers 3-0. Kevin Cummings scored twice in the 13th and 14th minute while Daniel Ross netted in the sixth minute.

 Also, Leopold Street defeated Gaza Squad 3-0. Simeon Moore scored in the sixth and 13th minute, while Okeene Fraser netted in the 19th minute.

 Similarly, Bent Street mauled Young Ballers 4-1. Adrian Aaron grabbed a double in the 14th and 16th minute, while Pernell Schultz and Sheldon Holder scored in the third and 23th minute each.  

In other results, Showstoppers brushed aside Alexander Village 5-2. Dexroy Adams fashioned a double in the second and 14th minute, with Stephon Jupiter scoring in the 15th and 24th minute.

 Adding to the score was Delon Terrence in the 11th minute. For the loser, Leon Yaw and Shem Porter scored in the eighth and 17th minute each.

 Melanie edged Stabroek Ballers 2-1. Eon Roberts and Julian Bamfield netted in the sixth and 12th minute. For Stabroek Ballers, Seon Taylor scored in the 15th minute.

 Meanwhile, Back Circle, Leopold Street and Gaza Squad secured walkover victories against Stevedore, Agricola and Buxton Diamond correspondingly.

 The 11-day event, which continues tomorrow, will feature 32 teams battling in an initial group stage format featuring eight groups of four teams.

 Upon the completion of the group stage, the top two teams in each round will advance to the final. The other playing dates are April 4th, 6th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 16th, 18th, 20th, with the final pegged for the 27th.
