Baker’s dozen to contest Guinness `Greatest of the Streets’ playoff round

Thirteen community-based teams will contest the Playoff Round for the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets, East Coast Demerara edition tomorrow at the Haslington Market Tarmac.

 The participants are battling for the eight remaining berths to the main draw of the 16-team competition.  

 The automatic qualifiers are defending champion Uprising, Paradise-A, BV-A, Melanie-B, Buxton Diamond, Mahaica Determinators, Victoria Church Yard and Belfield Warriors.

 The teams vying for the precious berths are Victoria Eagles, Melanie-A, BV-B, Hustlers, United Ballers, Plaisance-A, Plaisance-B, Police-A, Belfield Stars, Vryheid’s Lust, Police-B, Non-Pariel Ballers and Buxton-B.

 The championship will officially commence on Friday April 12th at the same venue, with the final two nights slated for April 13th and 22nd respectively.

According to an official release from the coordinators of the event, Three Peat Promotions, “We are expecting a very competitive playoff round as each team has ambition of being a part of the tournament and eventually claiming the top prize. All participants are asked to be at the venue for 8:00am.”

The release added: “All though we have an uneven amount of teams battling for places, everyone will be on show during the Playoff Round to ensure a transparent elimination and qualification process.”
