Half-centuries from Winston Forester and Timothy McAlmont followed by searing spells from Bernard Bailey and Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed, spurred the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) to a commanding 162 run win over the Everest Cricket Club at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) last evening under lights in the final of the New Building Society second division forty overs tournament.

Everest chasing 261 to lift the cup, folded for 98-9 inside 28 overs.

They were rocked early on by Bailey whose opening spell produced figures of 3-31 which reduced Everest to 27-3 early in their chase.

Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed and Bernard Bailey shared six wickets between them last evening to bowl GCC to championship honours

Bailey who bowled eight overs on the trot was backed up by Ali-Mohammed who in his first over, took two wickets in a slippery spell to further add to Everest’s woes. He ended with 3-26 as Everest’s inning ended on 98 – 9 in 28 overs with Javeed Raheed’s injury resulting in him being unable to bat as only Sauid Drepaul (48) who entertained but fell just short of a milestone, stood as the lone warrior for Everest with the bat.

Early on, GCC after winning the toss and electing to bat, posted a formidable 260 – 8 from their full complement of overs.

Openers Forester and Martin Pestano-Belle led the way and established the tone for GCC after adding 93 for the opening stand before Pestano-Belle (32) met his demise.

However, Forester kept the wheels turning and laced nine fours before he fell to off-spinner Richie Looknauth (1-37) for an inning of 62 which was pleasing to the eyes.

Winston Forester

He fell with the score on 109 – 2 which brought Deonarine Seegobin and McAlmont together. They added 107 runs with latter bracing eight fours and a solitary maximum in the inning top score of 65 while Seegobin (45) accumulated easy runs before he was run-out for five short of his milestone.

GCC after the dismissal of both men, loss a couple of quick wickets including the dangerous Mohamed (9) before Carlos LaRose (15) struck a few blows at the end to carry GCC to 260-8 at the end of 40 overs.

Seamer Travis Mohamed (3-44) was the pick of the bowlers for Everest while Amir Khan (2-25) was tidy in the middle overs for his side.
