Newcomer Victoria among qualifiers for the main draw

Under cool condition yesterday at the Haslington Market Tarmac, Victoria, BV-B, Plaisance-B and Guyana Water Incorporated [GWI], were among the teams to earn their places in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets, East Coast Demerara edition.

A sizable crowd descended on the venue to witness the matches, with newcomer Victoria recoding two wins to seal their place amongst the final 16 teams.

 The experienced Vryheid Lust’s outfit went down 2-0 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended scoreless against the youthful Victoria unit. Paradise-B would be their second victim, losing 1-0 in the final contest of the match-day.

 On the other hand, former champion BV-B downed Belfield Stars 2-0. Meanwhile Plaisance-B defeated United Ballers 2-0 on penalty kicks, following a scoreless regulation time interval.

 Also, debutant GWI East Coast mauled Nabaclis 5-0. In other results, newcomer Non-Pariel squeaked past Plaisance-A 2-1 on penalty kicks, after a scoreless regulation time interval failed to decide the outcome.

 Former winner Melanie-A defeated Police-A via walkover, with debutant Liliendaal Hustlers defeating Police-B in the identical manner.

 Following the conclusion of the playoff round, the 16 teams that will contest the three day tournament are defending champion Uprising, Paradise-A, BV-A, Melanie-B, Buxton Diamond, Mahaica Determinators, Victoria Church Yard, Belfield Warriors, Haslington Hypers, Melanie-A, BV-B, Liliendaal Hustlers, Plaisance-B, GWI East Coast, Victoria and Non-Pareil.

 The championship will officially commence on Friday at the same venue, with the final two nights set for April 13th and 22nd respectively. Fixtures for the opening night will be distributed shortly.
