GHB U-20, Second ‘D’ Leagues underway

The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Under-20 and second-division Developmental Leagues got underway Saturday with the staging of a number of matches at the weekend at the Saint Stanislaus College (SSC) ground.

On Saturday, the usual suspects got their way on the opening day including GCC Pitbulls, who defeated YMCA Old Fort Generals 2-0 in the boys Under – 20 division, on the back of a brace from Meshach Sargeant. 

Meanwhile, YMCA Old Fort Ballerz got the better of Saints Hockey Club 4-1 compliments of a brace from Shaquon Favourite, while Dominic Alleyne and Omar Hopkinson scored the other two goals.

Baraka Garnett netted the lone strike for the losers. 

In the girls Under – 20 division, Saints and favourites GCC Bingo Spartans recorded wins to get their campaigns rolling in the right direction. 

Saints defeated GCC Her-Ricanes 3-0 while Spartans slew YMCA Old Fort Ballerz 4-0, courtesy of goals from Madison Fernandes, who netted twice and Sarah Klautky and Paige Fernandes with a goal each. 

Second-Division action saw Bounty GCC and Hikers Cadets play to a 3-3 draw while GCC The Sequel and Saints Savages ended 1-1 after regular time. 

Sunday’s action saw Pitbulls recording further success by defeating SHC Samurai 2-1 in the boys Under – 20 division while SHC Storm stitched a 3-1 win over YMCA Old Fort Generals. 

In the women’s second-division action, Saints downed GBTI GCC 2-1 while Bellas and Spartans played to a 0-0 draw. 

However, in the men’s second -ivision action, Savages defeated Old Fort Aces 1-0 while GCC The Sequel edged out Bounty GCC 2-0.
