Saints Hockey Club in line to sweep GHB, Smalta, Icool U-14 league

Saints Hockey Club (SHC) is in line to capture the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) boys and girls’ Under -14 indoor development league, sponsored by Smalta and Icool water after the club secured four of eight semi-final spots in both categories. 

The club, which runs under the guidance of national youth coach Robert Fernandes, will pull out all the stops to capture both titles on Friday at the Marian Academy Auditorium. 

However, they are expected to face stern challenges from Hikers’ team Uzzi who are the defending boys champs and the hosts who took the previous title in the girls category.

In the first girl’s semi-final, SHC Snipers, who ended unbeaten after seven group stage matches will come up against St. Joseph ‘s High School (SJHS) Divas, while SHC Slayer will face off against host and defending champs Marian Academy in the other semi. 

The first boys’ semi-final will involve a clash between SJHS Gladiators who dominated the group stages and SHC Supreme.

SHC Scorpions and Hikers Team UZZI, who are the defending champions, will clash in the second semi-final for a finals berth.

Meanwhile, the annual development event, which is used to identify talent and spread the interest of the sport, saw the sponsors and the GHB donating sideboards to North Rumiveldt Multilateral Secondary School to assist with their development programme. 

The boards will accommodate training exercises on two courts at the learning institution.
