Essequibo, yesterday were  routed for 41 runs in the final round of the Rubis Bel Air Under-17 Inter County tournament at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in a 136-run loss to Berbice to bring the curtains down on the tournament.

Essequibo, chasing 178 for victory was bundled out inside 22 overs as only skipper Sheldon Charles (13) reached double figures. The win for Berbice was centered around Hemraj Harilall (3-4), Gaurav Ramesh (3-13), Abdul Ramsammy (3-10), all of whom snared three wickets each to destroy their counterparts.

Meanwhile, earlier Berbice reached 177 before being dismissed in the 48th over. The innings was spearheaded by the inform Sarwan Chaitnarine (51), who struck back to back half centuries, carving out three fours to end the tournament on a high.

The only other batsmen to record scores in the 20s were Mahendar Gopilall (25*) and Zeynul Ramsammy (22) as off-spinner Wazim Mohamed nabbed 5-28 from his complement of 10 overs to hand his side a personal milestone to cheer about.
