Easa Sanichara and Christina Kumar etched their names into the record books by claiming titles in the male and female singles categories of the Guyana Badminton Association/E-Networks Easter tournament on Friday.
Playing at the National Gymnasium, Sanichara defeated Hemraj Beharry 21-16, 22-20 to take the title after moving past Isaac Mallampati (21-14, 21-12) in the semi-finals and Elion Beaton (21-4, 21-12) in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, in the female division, Kumar worked her way past Stephanie Sajar (21-12, 21-7) in the quarter finals before disposing of Emelia Ramdhani (21-19, 9-21, 14-21) in the semi-finals.
She then faced Anna Perreira in the final who also suffered a commanding defeat by a 8-21, 2-21 margin.
In the men’s singles consolation final, Matthew Beharry copped the prize from Shimron Lewis (21-16, 21-17). Lewis had defeated Xavier Anthony in the semi-final.
Kaylie Anthony also recorded a consolation win in the final over Khaya Boswick (21-11, 21-17) after she had beaten Gabriella Hinks in the semi-final.
