Diplomats down TSC by four wickets

—Dick, Scott score centuries in MSC, GNIC clash

Diplomats recorded a thrilling win over the Transport Sports Club (TSC) in the latest round of the Noble House Seafoods second-division, two – day competition yesterday. The jubilant Diplomats unit recorded the four-wicket win at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground.  

The TSC, who were dismissed for 131 on the stroke of play on opening day responding to Diplomat’s first innings score of 289-9 declared, were asked to follow on at the resumption of play on the second morning.  

They produced a much better second innings batting effort, posting 239 before being dismissed and earning a lead of 81 runs. 

Adrian Hinds (47) and Shawn Massiah (44) missed out on half-centuries while seamer Rayson Gill nabbed 6-70 to lead his side’s bowling effort.  

Diplomats then reached 87-6 to complete the tense win as off-spinner Kevin Ross (2-23) and Joel Spooner (2-51) almost delivered a come-from-behind win for TSC. 

Meanwhile, over at GNIC, the host and the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) played to a draw on a day where two of Guyana’s most promising youth batsmen cracked centuries.  

MSC resumed the day on 93-3 and reached 243 before being dismissed in response to GNIC’s first innings total of 293-3 declared.  

Jeremiah Scott laced an innings of 114 for MSC. GNIC, however, reached 220-7 at stumps on the final day with Dwain Dick easing 124 in his side’s second innings total. Dexter Soloman (49) missed out in a milestone while Joemal Jackman captured 3-33 for the MSC bowling unit.
