DCC, GCC recordopening wins

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) yesterday recorded opening round wins in the GCA/American Youth Premier Cricket League Under-19 Cricket Competition. 

 DCC at home, defeated the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) by 81 runs while GCC trounced GNIC by 46 runs at Bourda. 

 DCC, batting first, compiled 222-9 from their allotted overs. West Indies youth player Sachin Singh hammered seven fours and a maximum in a top score of 44 while Nkosie Beaton (38) and Orlando Giddings (33) missed out on half centuries.

 Seamer Bryan Bowen (3-45) led MYO’s efforts with the ball. He received support from Abdul Ramsammy (2-24). GYO in response were bamboozled by off-spinner Ezekiel Wilson (5-27) who captured his maiden five-wicket haul to rout MYO for 141 in 41.4 overs. Daniel Mootoo (2-26) supported Wilson’s efforts. 

Meanwhile, over at GCC, the hosts, after winning the toss and deciding to bat, posted 130 before being dismissed in 33.4 overs. 

 Opener Andsuegga Rodriguez top scored with 34 with support from Odida Douglas (19) and Carlos Pollard (18).

 Off-spinner Trevon Jones led GNIC’s bowling effort with 3-12 while Joel Craig (3-46), Jeremiah Benjamin (2-30) and Amos Sarwan (2-25) all ticked the wickets column. 

 GNIC in response, folded for 84 as only Rasidi Benjamin (24) and Jeremiah Benjamin (16) got into double figures. Spinners Aryan Persaud (3-14) and Darius Andrews (3-19) along with seamer Shadrach Bacon (2-16) shared eight wickets among them to spearhead the rout and hand their side the opening win.
