An enterprising century from Garfield Benjamin followed by a masterful spell of off-spin bowling from Dwain Dick, lifted host GNIC to an emphatic 184-run win over Better Hope GYCEA in the penultimate round of the GCA/American Youth Premier Cricket League Under-19 Cricket Competition, yesterday.

The host, after winning the toss and electing to bat, piled on 274 before being dismissed in the 43 overs.

Berbician, Benjamin, who batted at number four, headlined the innings with a crafty knock of 115 an innings which included 12 fours and seven sixes.

He received support from Dick (38) along with Joel Fortune (27) and Jamal Davis (23) who were both useful down the order.

Seamer Brandon Jordon shone with the ball for the Better Hope side by nabbing 5-49 while Rajendra Singh (2-52) and Chandra Mohan (2-35) supported.

Better Hope, in response, was bundled out for 90 in 20 overs as off-spinner Dick ran through the middle order, snaring 6-30 as he continues to display his all-round worth. Jordan (27) and Deoram Narine (25) were the only men to show any resistance.

Meanwhile, over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), the host recorded a commanding seven-wicket win over the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) to remain unbeaten heading into today’s final round.

The day’s proceedings saw GYO winning the toss and electing to bat, a decision they must have rued as they were routed for 80 inside 25 overs.

Skipper Qumar Torrington, who sniffed out the first four wickets, ended with figures of 4-12 while the consistent Daniel Mootoo captured 5-12 with his left-arm spin to complement Torrington’s pace. The host in response, rocketed to 81-3 in 17 overs to complete the win on the back of a 48-run stand between Alphius Bookie (23) and Inderjit Nanan (21) which sealed the deal.
