The Berbice Cricket Board has added the Stag Beer 50-over first-division tournament to its list of competitions for 2019 with the first round beginning in two weeks.

Beverage giants, Ansa McAl (Guyana) Limited has leapt on board with the Ancient County’s cricket administration to sponsor the round robin tournament, marking the 15th tournament of the BCB in the first quarter of the year and 41st since the new executive took over in 2018.

BCB president, Hilbert Foster, stated that the tournament will see 11 teams divided into two zones who will play each other with the top two teams going into the semifinal.

Zone A will see West Berbice, Blairmont Community Centre, Tucber Park, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Canje and Police Sports Club while Zone B would consist of Albion Community Centre, Port Mourant, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Upper Corentyne and Skeldon.

Foster thanked the East Coast Demerara-based company under its Stag Brand and its CEO Troy Cadogan for the confidence in the BCB while attesting to hard work and transparent managing of cricket by the board. He gave the assurance to the first division teams that at least five more tournaments such as this one will be featured within the year.

The BCB President explained that the Board is also currently in consultation with several potential sponsors in the effort of hosting a two-day first-division tournament.

Cadogan, in brief remarks, stated that he was very impressed by the activities of the Berbice Cricket Board and its commitment to the development of the game.

The tournament will see clubs being allowed just one non- Berbician player and will see the strict implementation of rules such as walkovers for teams that are  30 minutes late and the loss of the toss for being 15 minutes late.
