Aleka Persaud clinches another gold, two bronze medals at CARIFTA

Guyana’s `Golden Girl’ swimmer Aleka Persaud gained further success in the pool at the ongoing CARIFTA Championships in Barbados by capturing her second gold medal at the swim meet on Monday. 

The young woman clocked a time of 1:o2.93s to win the girls 11-12 100 LC metre freestyle event ahead of Harper Barrowman of the Cayman Island and Amelia Rajack of Trinidad and Tobago.

Persaud, on Sunday, followed up her gold medal performance in Girls 11-12 100 LC metre butterfly event on Saturday by capturing two bronze medals.

She also qualified for one other event in this year’s Caribbean and Central America (CCCAN) swim meet in Barbados.

 Persaud, competing in the girls 11-12 50 LC metre butterfly event, finished third in a time of 30.94s behind Trinidadian Joy Blackett (30.71s) and Giani Francis (38.86) of Jamaican to back up her gold medal day one performance. 

The 12-year-old, later in the day, picked up another bronze medal in the girls 11-12 200 LC metre freestyle event, stopping the clock at a time of 2:21.17s. That event was taken by Harper Barrowman (2:16.30s) of the Cayman Islands while Amelia Rajack (2:20.08s) of the Twin Island Republic came in second.
