Stanley, bowlers guide Tri – State to U19 title with win over DCC

Skipper Sanjay Stanley and his bowlers orchestrated a commanding eight-wicket win for Tri-State over defending champions the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the final of the GCA/American Youth Premier Cricket League Under-19 Cricket Competition yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC), Ground. 

 DCC, batting first in the rain-affected fixture, was bundled out for 96 inside 26 overs. Only National under – 15 batsman Jaden Campbell (20) and Ezekiel Wilson (22) got into the twenties in a sorry batting effort as Tamesh Persaud (3 – 17) and Adil Shivkumar (3-16) shared six wickets between them to spearhead the rout. 

 The US based side in response raced to 100 for 2 in 19 overs with Stanley easing four fours and a solitary maximum to complete the win and help dethrone the defending champions. Saiteja Mukkamalla, who struck three fours in a knock of 26 was also among the runs.

Meanwhile, receiving individual awards were Ntini Permaul who nabbed 7-24 and cooped a prize for the best bowling performance of the tournament while National youth batsman Marvan Prashad’s 165 received a prize for the highest individual score of the tournament. 

 Leg –spinner Akeem Clarke who nabbed 15 wickets at a staggering average of 11.3 ended as the bowler with the highest wickets tally at the end of the group stage while Prashad’s 287 runs tally topped the batting charts at the end of the group stage. Prashad was also adjudged Zone A’s MVP while Devon Allen who scored 274 runs was zone B’s MVP.
