Essequibo flatters to deceive

Game changers! Kevlon Anderson (3-12), Kelvin Umroa (5-24), Garfield Benjamin (50) and Nigel Deodat (48) swung the match in Berbice’s favour.

A rain-hit second day of the Hand-In-Hand Under-19 Inter-County second round clash at Lusignan Community Centre ground saw Essequibo bowled out for 62 in just over an hour’s play in response to Berbice’s first innings of 200 in 76.1 overs.

With scattered showers and a moist wicket, Berbice resumed their innings in a spot of bother at 107-6, but overnight batsmen, Nigel Deodat and Garfield Benjamin mustered an 85-run stand to revive the innings.

Deodat, who resumed on 10 attacked the bowlers with aggressive shots through the covers and down the ground.
