Reports: Mavs’ Porzingis injured in altercation

The Dallas Mavericks are investigating an altercation involving Kristaps Porzingis this weekend in his native Latvia that left the All-Star bleeding above his right eye.

According to TMZ Sports, Porzingis was confronted by a group of Russians who were upset about his trade from the New York Knicks to the Mavericks in January.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that the Mavericks believe the 7-foot-3 forward was jumped and fought back before nightclub security broke up the fight.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania added the additional detail that Porzingis was “hit by objects.”

Video footage on social media shows the 23-year-old Porzingis in the street outside the club, visibly upset with blood on his forehead and his shirt torn.

Porzingis missed the entire 2018-19 season recovering from a torn ACL.

An All-Star in 2017-18, he played in 186 games during three seasons with the Knicks and averaged 17.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots.
