Balram Narine stopped the clock at 47 minutes to ride off with the third annual Flying Ace Cycling Club, Father’s Day 10-lap road race yesterday in Berbice.

The young wheelsman battled a small contingent of 12 riders from the club as well as the gloomy weather that incorporated inconsistent showers as he pedaled through the Republic Road, New Amsterdam route, copping all eight sprint prizes.

Second was Ralph Seenarine who trailed by almost 500 metres while Jeremiah Joseph and Mario Washington rounded out the top four.

In the junior division, Joseph was victorious with Washington second and Steve Bhimsingh rounding off the podium finishers.

In the 12-14 years group, Aron Rajnarine was victorious in the two-lap event with Shazim Yakub and Sachin Karan finishing second and third respectively.

Meanwhile in the veterans’ category, Sybourne Fernandes edged out William Benjamin to earn the top spot.

However, 68-year-old Carl Rigby impressed all that were present including New Amsterdam Mayor, Winifred Haywood.

Haywood commended the riders for their efforts and noted that sports is key to developing a healthy lifestyle while adding that it is important for sports to bring back livelihood in the town.

Coach and Organiser, Randolph Roberts explained that the event is a warm-up for the riders as they prepare for the national championships this coming week with three riders already selected and the others aiming to stake their claim for a spot at the Caribbean Junior Championship which will be hosted locally for the first time.

Roberts also thanked the business community for coming on board and supporting the race, noting that without them, it would be impossible to have every rider receive a trophy.
