Australian all-rounder, Chris Green said yesterday Guyana’s Amazon Warriors did nothing wrong in their runner-up finish season last year and should stick to their strengths in order to win the 2019 HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The 25-year-old who was appointed captain of the Franchise last season following the departure of Shoaib Malik told media operatives yesterday at the official launching of the team that nothing new needs to be done this year but go out there and do it all over again.

“Nothing new, we’ve got to get there again, obviously there are a lot of round games we have to get through and I think having a strong home base and winning as much games in our home as before puts you in a great position with the playoffs being here,” Green posited.

The off-spinner reckoned that the team is not pressured into a final but believes that they have to go out there and have fun.  “I think when we get into the final there will be no pressure on us, we have nothing to lose, we just have to go out there and have fun, showcase our skills and bring the trophy back.”

The success of the team is well-documented but going to the final four out of six seasons and not winning a title is “unfortunate,” according to the former captain. However, he is of the opinion that this team can break the jinx.

“Guyana is unfortunate not to get over the line but this year we’ve got the team to do it all over again and go one step further,” Green said while theorized, “we have got some exciting local players who have made a name for themselves last year, Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford and I know there is some new faces that would add a lot to the group.”

Green went on to indicate that there are a group of talented youngsters in the squad and will look to impart as much experience as he can into them.

In addition to the younger stars, Green noted that an additional benefit for the team is Malik’s presence for the entire tournament which provides solidarity in the team.

Green pointed out that Malik “brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, we’ve seen how good he is with the bat, he has that calmness about him and the group really responds to that, I think having that solidarity throughout the tournament will be key.”
