Dexter Gardener, the designer of the winning costume in this year’s Miss Earth Guyana Pageant, has been selected to design the national costume that will be worn when Faydeha King competes with over 100 delegates from other countries at the Miss Earth 2019 pageant in October in the Phillipines.

Gardener was announced as the designer by the Miss Earth Guyana organisation on Thursday.

The organisation, in a press release, noted that in 2018, another of his designs, copped bronze at the Miss Earth Guyana pageant. The costume, which was named the Guardian of the Earth, was worn by finalist Oriana Castello. The undaunted Gardener designed another costume for this year Miss Earth Guyana pageant. The costume, which was worn by Anessa Vansluytman, won the Best National Costume in the competition.

According to the organisation, the design and execution style of the national costume that will be worn by King will be a reminder of important pages in Guyana history. “The costume will be lit with Guyana’s national flower, the Victoria Regia along with waterfalls of Guy-ana’s greenery and a fairy-light execution,” it explained.

In 2018, Xamiera Kippins, who represented Guyana at the international pageant, won the gold medal for her national costume, which was designed by Randy Madray. That design depicted the “Old Higue” of Guyanese folklore.
