Clifford ‘Alabama’ Charles releases his first single for 2019 “No Puppet” today on air as well as several social media platforms. The song is expected to soon become a hit in Guyana.

Alabama often focuses on the societal issues with his songs and “No Puppet” is no different. The song comes after the announcing of the presidential candidate for the opposition party.

“I wrote the song after the PPP announced their candidate for president,” Alabama said. “I’m the kind of person who is always up to date with the word on the street…, so I did the song saying we don’t want no puppet president. I like to highlight the feelings of the people….” The song was recorded and produced by Alabama’s own recording label, Bomb Squad Productions.

Some of the lyrics in the song say: “GT is nah Sesame Street. We need a real president to run the country… We nah want no puppets fuh be we president.”

“No Puppet” speaks about persons on the opposition dressed in their three-piece suits but goes on to say that although nicely dressed, without their strings they are incomplete. The song questioned why someone would even consider running for the presidency after all the charges brought against him and questioned also why he would even think about running against a man who was never charged.

Apart from this new single, Alabama is currently working on a culture album slated to be released by mid-year. The 15-track album will be a mix of Reggae and Dancehall genres. Alabama is teaming up with Trinidad-based Guyanese Ras Isan, members of First Born and a few other artistes to make the album possible.

He will also be releasing for the second time around “Ah Guyanese”, which was already released some time last year, but because of lack of promotion it wasn’t as successful as he had hoped. The song promotes the Guyanese culture and way of celebrating when it comes to Mashramani and shows that we stand out in the way we celebrate. The song is expected to be released in time for Mash.
