A Canefield, East Canje Berbice, man succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday morning after he set himself on fire Monday morning.
Dead is Chandlall Verian also known as ‘Fine man’, 39, unemployed, of Lot 115 West Cane-field, East Canje Berbice.
Based on information received, Verian allegedly committed the act at his residence while under the influence of alcohol.
Residents said the man was seen on fire minutes after 10 am after which relatives were alerted. They put out the fire and rushed him to the New Amster-dam Public Hospital.
He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed.
He reportedly sustained major burn injuries to his face and about his body.
